Our eight-hour* "Intelligent Homes" seminar explores a simple - yet often overlooked - concept: homes should be intelligently designed so they may adapt to the changing lifestyles and abilities of the end users rather than occupants having to adapt to their homes' constraints. This approach not only addresses the needs of the enormous baby boomer market but also the challenges the boomerang generation present, and the demands for the rapidly expanding multigenerational home market.
You will learn how to solve the needs of this expanding market (expected to represent roughly 40% of US spending by 2015) and how to profit by giving them what they want. Some of the tools and techniques explored in this seminar are:
new ways to look at space planning and adjacencies to create flexible spaces
sustainable and energy-efficient elements that can easily be implemented
technological advances available to make homes safer and more user friendly
products and finishes that meet the needs of changing lifestyles and/or abilities
* This seminar addresses health, safety and welfare issues and includes 1 hour dedicated to barrier-free design and 1 hour dedicated to sustainable ("green") design.
Classes will be at The Houston Design Center – 7026 Old Katy Road, Houston, Texas 77024 8 am until 5 pm and include breaks for morning, lunch and afternoon.

DesignArts Seminars presents "New ADA Regulations: What are the Impacts and How to Comply"
This 8-hour seminar provides in-depth coverage of the revised ADA-ABA guidelines in comparison with the currently-enforceable ADAAG standards. Also addressed are the implications of newly-revised state standards.
The course helps designers and architects understand which standards to use, and when. We conduct a side-by-side comparison of the current ADA Accessibility Guidelines and the New ADA Accessibility Guidelines that are being released into the final phase of the legislative process. This study will help participants learn how to integrate the new standards into designs and what to do when state requirements differ from the new federal requirements. Are you ready for the most major change in access standards in 18 years? You will be after this class!
